On November 22nd, 2022, the Annual Conference “Energy Cities in Romania” took place in Bucharest with the aim of bringing together representatives of national and local authorities to facilitate the implementation of local plans for climate and energy, organized by the ’’Energy Cities in Romania – OER’’.
The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests is Programme Operator for the Programme “Environment, adaptation to climate change and ecosystems” – RO-Environment, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area EEA 2014-2021.
During the presentation by the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, Mrs. Marisanda Pîrîianu, Ro-Environment Programme Manager, emphasized the specific role and activities but also the concern regarding the implementation of the “Environment, adaptation to climate change and ecosystems” Programme, financed by the EEA Grants 2014 -2021. She also emphasized the importance and support that the Donor States have given to the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests for the implementation of this programme.
The ministry is implementing a Small Grants Scheme, funded by non-refundable grants, through which contracts were concluded with 8 Territorial Administrative Units (TAU), at municipal level, for the Development of Strategies and Plans for Adaptation to Climate Change.
Also, projects were presented as a “transfer of good practices” for other town halls, namely the Project ’’CLIMATE CHANGE – Action plan for diminishing and measures needed for adaptation in Sibiu County’’, implemented by the Sibiu County Council in partnership with Babeș Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca and the Project ’’Development of mitigation and adaptation plans of Câmpulung Municipality’’, implemented by Câmpulung City Hall, in partnership with the University of Bucharest – the Faculty of Geography and the Institute for Strategic Development in Liechtenstein.
During this event, several topics of interest to Local Authorities were also discussed, namely:
Convention of Mayors, Energy and Climate policies, Implementation of the concept of “Green Schools”, Development of Climate Change Adaptation Plans, Correlation of Local Energy Plans with national targets and funding opportunities and the possibility of local biomethane production.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Regulatory Authority, the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, the Ministry of Education, the Technical University of Construction – Bucharest, ENGIE Romania, the Association of Romanian Cities, Association for Fresh Air, climate experts and OER members.
