PRESS RELEASE Miercurea-Ciuc City Hall implemented the Project “Development of the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan of Miercurea-Ciuc”, between December 2021 and December 2022.

This project has a value of 573,461 lei (115,855.39 Euro), of which 537,761.00 lei (108,642.98), represents the non-reimbursable financial contribution and is financed by the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, through the RO-Environment Programme, with financing through The European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, and the implementation period was 12 months.

The main objective of the project is to increase the strategic planning capacity of the Miercurea Ciuc administration in order to prevent and adapt to climate change, respectively to identify concrete measures to prevent and reduce the impact of climate change in the municipality.

The most important activities carried out during the Project have been the following:

  • the development of the diagnostic study on medium-term climate trends and vulnerability to climate change;
  • increasing the level of awareness of the local community (institutions and citizens) through information actions (workshops, information meetings and the application of a questionnaire regarding the level of information of the local population in the field of climate change);
  • elaboration of the climate change mitigation and prevention plan of Miercurea Ciuc Municipality.

 

The results of the project will contribute to the reduction of future emissions of greenhouse gases, to the maintenance of healthy ecosystems by restoring degraded environments, thus enrolling the municipality of Miercurea-Ciuc among the green cities in Romania.
