The Bucharest Institute of Biology of the Romanian Academy, as Beneficiary, organized the Closing Conference for the Project Degraded mires and peatlands restoration of North-East 2 region of Romania – PeatRO3 at Yesterday hotel, in Bucharest, on March 25, 2024, at 10 am.
This project has a value of 2.792.749 lei lei and is implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, as Programme Operator, through the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems’’ Programme (RO – Environment), financed by the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The Project was implemented throughout 29 months, with a completion date in April 2024.
During the event, among the topics addressed, there were presentations of the implemented activities, the results that were obtained and their impact at various levels.
The importance of ex-situ conservation of some plant species specific to peatland habitats, the need for ecological education in peatlands and green training activities for the economic development of local communities, but also the promotion of restored bogs and peatlands for ecotourism were also discussed.
The event was attended by acad. Dumitru Murariu, the vice-president of the Romanian Academy, Marisanda Pîrîianu, Programme Manager – RO-Environment, representatives of the European Funds Management Department within the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, together with members of the implementation team of the Project Promoter.
