PRESS RELEASE Regarding the project ’’Closure of the temporary municipal landfill Ipoteşti, Suceava County’’

On 23 February 2023, Suceava City Hall, as Project Promoter, organized the Launch conference for the project ’’Closure of the temporary municipal landfill Ipoteşti, Suceava County’’.

This project is implemented through the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” Programme’’ (RO-Environment) – Call no. 2 – ’’Measures to reduce contamination with hazardous substances in temporary municipal waste storage spaces’’, and is financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) 2014 – 2021, for which the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests is the Programme Operator.

The total value of the project is 8,640,758.92 lei, of which the amount of non-refundable financing received through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) 2014-2021 is 7,214,768.48 lei (85% of the approved eligible value), and the amount of non-refundable funding received from the national budget is 1,273,194.44 lei (15% of the approved eligible amount). The project implementation period is between November 24, 2022 and April 30, 2024.

In the beginning of the conference, Lucian Harșovschi, the deputy mayor of the Suceava municipality, specified the need to implement this project, mentioning the real need of the municipality and the citizens for the in situ closure of the temporary Ipotesti municipal waste deposit and the transformation of the degraded land (currently occupied by municipal residual waste) into a green area.

During the event, the project manager presented the main objective of the project, which is the reconversion of a degraded land, with the aim of improving, revitalizing and reducing air pollution in the urban environment, in accordance with the fulfillment of the legal obligations of the Territorial Administrative Units.

Furthermore, Marisanda Pîrîianu, the RO-Environment Programme Manager, from the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, emphasized the fact that the municipality of Suceava is the first among the other participating territorial administrative units that completed the conclusion of all contracts related to the implementation of the project. Mrs. Pîrîianu expressed her support and provided assurance to the entire team that they will benefit from the PO’s full support.

The press conference ended with a question and answer session regarding the implementation stages of the project. The event took place in a hybrid system, with the participation of the deputy mayor of the municipality of Suceava, Lucian Harșovschi, Marisanda Pîrîianu, the RO-Environment Programme Manager – Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, representatives of the Directorate of European Projects, Tourism, Culture and Transport within the Suceava City Hall, of the Suceava Water Management System, the project implementation team, a representative of the design company and media representatives.
