PRESS RELEASE The Closing Conference for the Project Development of Mitigation and Adaptation Plans of Câmpulung Municipality

Câmpulung City Hall, together with its Partners University of Bucharest – Faculty of Geography and the Institute for Strategic Development from Liechenstein, organized the Closing Conference for the Project Development of Mitigation and Adaptation Plans of Câmpulung Municipality, on Friday, 9 December 2022.

The Project, with a value of 618.725 lei, of which 520.867,25 lei represent the non-refundable financial contribution, was implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests through the RO-Environment Programme, financed by the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The implementation period of the project was between December 2021 – December 2022.

During the Closing Conference, after a short presentation of the activities carried out through the implementation period, the Strategy and Plan for Mitigating and Adapting to Climate Chance in the Municipality of Câmpulung (ADAPT Câmpulung) was presented. This document will increase the municipality’s capacity to adapt to climate change by ensuring the actual involvement of the municipality in the global and national efforts to attain climate neutrality by 2050, by enhancing the adaptation capacity of natural and anthropogenic systems to climate change.

As a member state of the European Union, Romania has been responsibly involved in this international effort, and Câmpulung was one of the 8 beneficiaries selected to develop the Plan for Mitigating and Adapting to Climate Chance in the Municipality of Câmpulung (ADAPT Câmpulung), a document that provides the support, the vision and the guideline for future concrete actions.

 

The implementation of the Project was carried out according to the financing contract, and the Project was presented by Mrs. Marisanda PÎRÎIANU, the RO – Environment Programme Manager, as an example of good practice at the Cooperation Committee meeting that took place this year in Cluj, and was attended by representatives of the Donor States, of the International Monetary Fund from Bruxelles and of the Ministry of Investments and European Funds.

 

The Closing Conference for the Project Development of Mitigation and Adaptation Plans of Câmpulung Municipality was attended by Elena Lasconi (online), the Mayor of Câmpulung Municipality, the members of the implementation teams from the two partner institutions, the Municipality of Câmpulung and the University of Bucharest – Faculty of Geography, and Mrs. Marisanda Pîrîianu, Programme Manager, from the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, congratulated the Project Promoter – the Municipality of Câmpulung, as well as the Partners – the University of Bucharest – Faculty of Geography and the Institute for Strategic Development from Liechenstein.
