Regarding the Final Conference of the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” (RO-Environment) Programme, funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021

The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, as Programme Operator for the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” Programme, financed through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, organized the final conference of the RO-Environment Programme, between December 4-5, 2024, in Suceava.

The Ministy of Environment, Waters and Forests, as Programme Operator, carried out 28 projects within the Programme, with a total value of approximately 20 million euros, thus contributing to the achievement of program indicators and also exceeding these indicators.

The objective of the RO – Environment Programme is to improve the state of the environment in supported ecosystems, to reduce the negative effects of pollution and other human activities, as well as to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Mircea Fechet, extended his grattitude to the Donor States and the Financial Mechanism in Brussels, for the support provided by allocating these funds, and the hope that a new Programme will be implemented as soon as possible.

During this event, the Programme Manager, Marisanda Pîrîianu, presented the programme’s objectives, areas of intervention and the results obtained for each area, namely Biodiversity and Ecosystem services, Hazardous Substances, Climate Change Adaptation and Geographic information for the environment, climate change and integration into the EU-LAKI III.

“The projects carried out through the RO-Environment Programme, along with other projects with non-reimbursable European funding, are part of the priority actions of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests to resolve some aspects of complex environmental issues,” stated the program manager, Marisanda Pîrîianu.

The representative of the Donor States had an intervention in which he appreciated the results obtained by the Programme Operator, and congratulated the Programme implementation team.

Also, an online intervention was held by the representative of the EEA Financial Mechanism in Brussels, namely the Head of the Program Results and Evaluation Unit, who highlighted the professional way of conducting and managing the RO-Environment Programme, and its results.

The final conference hosted presentations of the projects that the Project Promoters carried out within the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” Programme (RO-Environment) and a visit to the temporary municipal landfill in Ipotești, Suceava County.

The results obtained through the implementation of these projects aim to reduce or prevent the release of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, and to develop strategic documents in the field of climate change in the areas of the beneficiary administrative-territorial units.

Therefore, through the projects implemented under the Programme, activities were carried out that contributed to achieving the objective of the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” Programme, financed through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 – RO-Environment.

The Closing Conference of the “Environment, Climate Change Adaptation and Ecosystems” Programme (RO-Environment), financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021, was attended in person and online by: Marisanda Pîrîianu, Programme Manager, the state secretaries of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, Dan Ștefan Chiru and Paul Barbur, by members of the Ro-Environment Programme Implementation Unit – Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, Project Promoters from research institutes, universities, beneficiary Administrative-Territorial Units, as well as local structures of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests.
