Workshop “The ranking and prioritization of the problems generated by climate change at local and regional level”

Câmpulung City Hall, in partnership with the University of Bucharest – Faculty of Geography and the Institute for Strategic Development in Liechtenstein, organized on Thursday, July 14, 2022, the Workshop “Hierarchization and prioritization of the problems generated by climate change at local and regional level” within the project Development of mitigation and adaptation plans of Câmpulung Municipality.

The Ministry of the Environment, Waters and Forests is the Programme Operator for the “Environment, adaptation to climate change and ecosystems” Programme – RO-Environment, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021.

The meeting was a good opportunity to evaluate the stage of the implementation of the project and to present the studies developed by the team of experts, studies that present both an objective assessment of the transformations of environmental factors in recent years, ad how these changes have affected and continue to affect the environment and people’s lives, but also solutions to mitigate and adapt to them.

After the general presentation of the objectives and activities within the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan in Câmpulung Municipality, the results of the reports made by the National Meteorological Administration, the University of Bucharest and the Faculty of Geography were presented, as well as solutions for reducing the negative effects caused by environmental changes such as the implementation of pocket gardens inside collective housing blocks.

The problems generated by climate change at the local and regional level and their ranking and prioritization were also presented.

The conclusion of the workshop was that each person can contribute positively to reducing the pressure that humanity puts on the environment, not only to wish but to act in this sense, and the municipality of Câmpulung can be that place where the community and the administration local gets involved to ensure a healthy future for generations to come.

The event was attended by members of the project implementation teams from the two partner institutions, the Municipality of Câmpulung and the University of Bucharest-Faculty of Geography, local councilors, representatives of public and private institutions whose activity impacts or is influenced by climate change.
